cellSense is a miniature fibre-optic Raman probe designed to be used during optical biopsies, an emerging alternative to conventional surgical biopsies for diagnosing cancer and other diseases.
The problem.
The current gold standard for diagnosing cancer is histopathology of excised tissue. However, some cancers, such as esophageal cancer, are difficult to detect using conventional video-guided endoscopy.
Therefore, during an endoscopic biopsy, there is a risk that cancer tissue is missed or tissue is removed unnecessarily.
Further, histopathology takes time and is qualitative.
